Admissions Recommendations
Application after the first year is highly recommended due to the sequencing of dance courses in the Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) program. Additionally, as Illinois’ Dance curricula sequences begin in the fall semester, transfers are strongly encouraged to apply for fall enrollment. Dance does currently have a 2+2 pathway program with Parkland College.
Dance at Illinois also offers a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree, which requires an additional departmental application. Students interested in the BA in Dance should contact the Dance Department to request the departmental application for the BA in Dance. Sequencing of courses is not as strict in the BA degree as in the BFA. Therefore, application can be made after the second or third year of higher education, though it may take extra time beyond the traditional four years to fulfill the requirements for the degree.
Graduation Requirements
To graduate, all students are required to complete at least 45 semester hours of credit at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. At least 21 of these credit hours must be at the 300 or 400 level.
General Education Courses
Included in our graduation requirements are general education (gen ed) courses. These classes allow you to gain and use broad knowledge beyond the specialized learning you’ll do through your major. Learn more about our general education requirements. You may be able to use Transferology to find gen ed courses that will transfer over from your institution to UIUC.
Language Other than English
To graduate from Illinois, you must complete three years of one language other than English in high school or through the third level (three semesters) of one language other than English in college. We strongly encourage you to complete our language requirement for graduation before transferring.
