Admissions Requirements
GPA
For Spring 2025 applicants, it is expected that applicants to this program will have a minimum GPA of 2.75 (A = 4.0).
For Fall 2025 and future term applicants, it is expected that applicants to this program will have a minimum GPA of 3.0 (A = 4.0). A 3.25 GPA or higher is highly recommended.
Language Other than English
For admission to this program, you must have completedeither three levels of one language other than English in high school orthrough the second level (two semesters) of one language other than English in college prior to application submission. If the 2nd level is in progress at the time of application, the course requirement will be considered incomplete.

Coursework
Quantitative Reasoning I general education equivalent course must be completed prior to application submission. if in progress upon application submission, the course requirement will be considered incomplete.
Students With Fewer Than 45 Graded, Transferable Credit Hours at Time of Application
If you’ll apply to Illinois with fewer than 45 graded, transferable credit hours, you must complete transfer coursework equivalent to the following University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign courses before or during the term you’re submitting your application:
- RHET 105, Writing & Research (requires a two-course English composition sequence at most schools)
- ISBE College Algebra and Statistics Standard. Must complete one of the following options:
- High school pre-calculus, college algebra (this refers to studies in advanced algebra beyond algebra 2; common course names include college algebra, college algebra/trig, advanced algebra/trig, and algebra 3), orcalculus with a grade greater than or equal to C-
- orAP calculus exam score greater than or equal to 3
- or MATH 112, College Algebra or equivalent course with a grade greater than or equal to C-
- STAT 100, Statistics
- or MATH 117, Elementary Mathematics
Students With More Than 45 Graded, Transferable Credit Hours at Time of Application
In addition to the courses listed above, if you’ll apply to Illinois with more than 45 graded, transferable credit hours, you must complete transfer coursework equivalent to the following University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign courses before or during the term you’re submitting your application:
- EPOL 201, Foundations of Education (program-approved equivalent)
- EPSY 201, Educational Psychology
- ISBE Math Requirement. Must complete one option from each of the following lists:
- MATH 103 (or math module) or community college equivalent of MATH 103
- MATH 117 (preferred), STAT 100, or AP statistics exam score greater than or equal to 3
- MATH 103, Theory of Arithmetic
- ISBE Social Science Rubrics. Select one course in four of the following categories:
- ANTH, Anthropology
- ECON, Economics
- GEOG/GGIS, Geography/Geography & Geographic Information Science
- GLBL, Global Studies
- HIST, History
- PS, Political Science
- PSYC, Psychology
- SOC, Sociology
Teacher Education Licensure

We also highly recommend that you meet the following criteria before transferring into this program, although it isn’t required that you do so in order to be admitted.

It is highly recommended that applicants to this program have a GPA of 3.25 (A = 4.0).
Graduation Requirements
To graduate, all students are required to complete at least 45 semester hours of credit at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. At least 21 of these credit hours must be at the 300 or 400 level.
General Education Courses
Included in our graduation requirements are general education (gen ed) courses. These classes allow you to gain and use broad knowledge beyond the specialized learning you’ll do through your major.
