GPA
The minimum GPA for admission consideration is 2.5 (A=4.0); however, 2.75 or above is preferred.
Coursework
Students With Fewer Than 60 Graded, Transferable Credit Hours at Time of Enrollment
If you’ll enroll at Illinois with fewer than 60 graded, transferable credit hours, you must complete transfer coursework equivalent to the following University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign courses before or during the term you’re submitting your application:
- CHEM 102, General Chemistry I and CHEM 103, General Chemistry Lab I
- MATH 112, Algebra (or higher)
- RHET 105, Writing & Research (requires a two-course English composition sequence at most schools)
- or CMN 101, Public Speaking
Students With More Than 60 Graded, Transferable Credit Hours at Time of Enrollment
In addition to the courses listed above, if you’ll enroll at Illinois with more than 60 graded, transferable credit hours, you must complete transfer coursework equivalent to the following University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign courses before or during the term you’re submitting your application:
- CHEM 104, General Chemistry II and CHEM 105, General Chemistry Lab II
- MATH 220, Calculus
- or MATH 234, Calculus for Business I
- RHET 105, Writing & Research (requires a two-course English composition sequence at most schools)
- CMN 101, Public Speaking
Admissions Recommendations
We also highly recommend that you meet the following criteria before transferring into this program, although it isn’t required that you do so in order to be admitted.
Coursework
We recommend that you complete transfer coursework equivalent to the following University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign courses by the term you’re submitting your application:
- ACE 100, Intro to Applied Microeconomics
- or ECON 102, Microeconomic Principles
- ANSC 100, Intro to Animal Sciences
- CMN 101, Public Speaking
- MCB 100, Introductory Microbiology
- MCB 101, Intro Microbiology Laboratory
- RHET 105, Writing & Research (requires a two-course English composition sequence at most schools)
- STAT 100, Statistics
Pre-Veterinary Students
If you’re interested in pursuing veterinarian school after receiving a bachelor’s in animal science, we recommend you have a minimum 3.5 GPA. We also recommend that you complete transfer coursework equivalent to the following University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign courses before or during the term you’re submitting your application:
- CHEM 232, Elementary Organic Chemistry I
- PHYS 101, College Physics: Mech & Heat
- PHYS 102, College Physics: E&M & Modern
- IB 150, Organismal & Evolutionary Biol and IB 151, Organismal & Evol Biol Lab
- MCB 150, Molec & Cellular Basis of Life and MCB 151, Molec & Cellular Laboratory
Graduation Requirements
To graduate all students are required to complete at least 45 semester hours of credit at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. At least 21 of these credit hours must be at the 300 or 400 level.
General Education Courses
Included in our graduation requirements are general education (gen ed) courses. These classes allow you to gain and use broad knowledge beyond the specialized learning you’ll do through your major. Learn more about our general education requirements. You may be able to use Transferology to find gen ed courses that will transfer over from your institution to Illinois.
Language Other than English
Although this program doesn’t require you to complete our language graduation requirement for admission, we strongly encourage you do so before transferring.
